At MP Environmental Services, we pride ourselves on delivering innovative and effective environmental remediation solutions. Our recent projects showcase our commitment to safety, efficiency, and community health. Here’s a closer look at three significant projects we’ve recently completed.
One of our standout projects took place at the Utica Armory, where we utilized our cutting-edge dry ice cleaning technology to safely remove lead-based paint. This isn’t your typical cleaning method! Dry ice, with a temperature of -109.3°F, serves as an exceptional medium for getting the job done. The thermal shock generated by dry ice blasting disrupts the molecular bonds of the paint, quickly cooling the paint film and causing internal stress that weakens its hold on the surface.
For this project, we worked from a specialized enclosed trailer equipped with negative pressure and HEPA filtration, ensuring safety and compliance throughout the process. The best part? Our method allowed us to remove lead-based paint about 300 times faster than traditional solvent-based approaches! The success of this project not only made the Armory safer but also showcased how effective dry ice technology can be in environmental remediation.
Next up is our work at the Saranac Loft site, where our team undertook an extensive cleanup operation aimed at protecting public health and the environment. This project involved several important steps, including building demolitions, the removal of suspected underground storage tanks, and the excavation of contaminated soils.
To keep things safe and transparent, we implemented a Community Air Monitoring Program (CAMP) to track particulates and volatile organic compounds throughout the process. We also treated contaminated groundwater by injecting chemical oxidants to break down petroleum contamination. By ensuring we complied with local, state, and federal regulations, we successfully achieved the necessary cleanup levels for unrestricted use. This thorough approach not only tackled environmental concerns but also set the stage for exciting future community development.
The Beechnut Facility project presented a unique challenge, as the site’s buildings had been abandoned for over 11 years. Our team stepped up to conduct large-scale asbestos remediation and demolition of deteriorated structures, prioritizing safety every step of the way.
Partnering with LiRo-Hill, we provided engineering design and construction management services, transforming the site into a shovel-ready space for redevelopment. Now, this once-abandoned area offers plenty of opportunities for future development, fully visible from the NYS Thruway and equipped with the necessary infrastructure and utilities.
We’re proud of our role in these transformative projects that prioritize community health, safety, and environmental sustainability. Whether it’s removing hazardous materials or prepping sites for future use, our innovative solutions are designed to make a lasting impact. We can’t wait to see what’s next!
